Open Educational Resources
Sharing User Generated Content
Martin Weller, The Open University, UK
This section consists of six chapters, each of which examines methods of effectively sharing content, often created by the learners themselves. A number of chapters are concerned with creating a learning community around open content. For example, Fetter, Berlanga & Sloep propose the use of “Ad-Hoc Transient Groups”, that is small groups of learners who are assembled to a purpose, for example with the eTwinning project. One of the functions formal education offers is the organisation and provision of the student cohort. This provides the student with a ready-made network of peers and co-learners. But the combination of social media and open resources now provides the opportunity for recreating such learning communities around OERs.
